Just as 3D projection technology revolutionized the movie experience, Geospatial Analytics through modern mapping technology - Geographic Information System (GIS) - has added a whole new dimension in terms of our capability to extract valuable insights from location datasets. Technically speaking, one can now perform Spatial, Statistical, Predictive & Link analysis all on a powerful and dynamic geospatial platform.
In this post, through four unique video workflows, you will see how a specialized module within GIS aids in addressing complex problem statements by bringing to the fore superior Location Intelligence for unearthing deep insights. Once you understand the concept-at-work, you'll be able to think of a variety of situations where one can leverage this technology to good effect.

Case 2 - Route Analysis to Prevent Accidents
The videos are best viewed on PC or on Landscape mode in Mobile Phone. Adjust the play speed as per your viewing preferences.
1. Studying Growth Patterns in Real Estate
In this workflow, you'll see how an Analyst analyzes existing Real Estate development projects within a district as well as makes sense of historical activity. He will then proceed to determine the root cause behind the recent Infrastructure boom and make predictive assessments as to which region can anticipate a growth in construction activity in the future.
Isn't this workflow applicable for multiple types of projects and situations?
2. Route Analysis to prevent Accidents
In this workflow, you'll see how a Logistics Analyst attacks the problem of rising accidents involving cyclists in a bustling city by studying the incident records and identifying the underlying patterns. Subsequently, he is able to give meaningful recommendations to the City Board on the ways to reduce the accident rates. The hallmark of this case is how the Project owner (the City Board) has an inspiring vision - to have zero fatal accidents - and how it seeks to leverage geospatial technology to influence a positive outcome, thereby progressing towards fulfilling the vision in a rapid way.
Another interesting GIS-based workflow on a similar topic can be accessed here.
3. Detecting Anomalies from Medical Prescription Records
In this workflow, an Analyst investigates Medical Prescription records to observe whether Doctors are over-prescribing drugs for illegal purposes (drug trafficking). The charm about this case is how a complex problem has been broken up into smaller fragments which makes it easier for the Analyst to make sense of the data. The workflow involves investigating only a subset of the total available information initially - subsequently the model is replicated to detect anomalies in the other information subsets. In this way, the challenge becomes manageable, the analysis becomes comparable, and the insights that are eventually revealed are remarkable.
4. Studying Differences in Mortality Rate based on Ethnicity
In this video workflow, a Healthcare Analyst wants to verify a newspaper's claim that there there is an inherent bias in the prevailing Healthcare System based on the ethnicity of the patients - that Black women are more susceptible to dying from Breast Cancer than White women. If the claim is found to be true using a scientific approach, the Analyst will proceed to identify the regions where this bias is most evident so that he can bring it to the attention of the local governing body who can work towards improving the Healthcare Facilities available to Black women in those regions.
While this is a workflow with social undertones, the broader concept-at-work is that one can use geospatial technology to study Cause & Effect relationships. One can, for example, use a similar workflow to determine how two kinds of audience react to the same advertising campaign.
