I stumbled upon this useful online course on Cartography last week (April 2020). It offers an excellent opportunity to understand both the art and the science of mapping geospatial data through hands-on exercises using the powerful Geographic Information System (GIS) platform — Esri ArcGIS Pro.
Below is my output from Week 1’s training exercise. The objective was to reproduce a map of the state of Massachusetts, USA, with its Road Features and Green Zones marked. I am genuinely in awe of the amount of work that goes into creating a professional-looking map. While modern geospatial software has made the overall process standardized and largely error-free, one cannot help but admire the skill and patience of cartographers in earlier times, who created such maps manually with remarkable precision.
There is another GIS course series by UC Davis available on Coursera that I highly recommend. It is extremely useful for anyone interested in exploring the world of Geospatial Analytics. In fact, it was this very course—its explanation of GIS applications and its linkages to Supply Chain Management (my academic specialization)—that inspired me to begin my venture, Intelloc Mapping Services (Mapmyops).

Isn’t it amazing how a single map can capture such a vast amount of information?
